Village Dissolution Petition Passes - Remember to VOTE on NOVEMBER 3RD, 2026!
JUNE 2, 2026 - At the Village Council Meeting last night, the Village's Attorney gave the Council a memorandum regarding the dissolution petition, which was submitted to Washington Township on May 29 and verified on June 1. Since the meeting, the Township has informed the Village that the petition has been submitted to the County and will be placed on the ballot on November 3, 2026. At the meeting on July 6, the Council will vote between forming a disincorporation commission or not.
Some things to keep in mind: when or if the Village disincorporates, all books, papers, records, etc., will be submitted to the County Clerk; all debts of the Village will be dispersed as a special assessment tax which the voters must pay off before the Village can be dissolved, as the Township will not inherit the debt; the Township will assume responsibility for Village property; all Village millages and taxes would be dissolved, and the Township's taxes would be imposed; the fire department would dissolve, and the Township would need to decide whether to form one; garbage pickup would cease; and all other benefits from the Village would be dissolved.
DECEMBER 23, 2025 - Today, our Village President had the honor of meeting our Congresswoman Lisa McClain! Thank you for extending an invitation, and for all that you do. Merry Christmas!
JULY 7, 2025 - Donna Geller stepped down as President, and Aidan Dove was appointed as President. President Dove then nominated, and the Council appointed, four new members to the Council! Congratulations to them all!
